SCORES and Telemundo Launch Atletas Poetas Ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026
This April, DC SCORES poet-athletes wrote, practiced, and performed original poems in Spanish and bilingual as part of Atletas Poetas — a national youth poetry celebration in partnership with Telemundo Station Group, uniting poet-athletes across seven cities in the lead-up to the FIFA World Cup 2026™.
Our poet-athletes at Bancroft Elementary School, a dual-language (Spanish/English) school, were right at home with this celebration — and their poems showed it.
DC SCORES is proud to announce its two city-level winners, Avery and Melany, who represented Washington, D.C. alongside poet-athletes from Los Angeles, New York City, Chicago, Boston, Miami, and the San Francisco Bay Area.
The partnership carries special significance. SCORES was founded in 1994 inspired by the energy of that year’s FIFA World Cup — and 32 years later, our poet-athletes are taking center stage as the world’s attention returns to the United States.
